A Quick Guide to find Versioning Settings of OneDrive

OneDrive automatically keeps an older version of files every time I edit them. These versions quickly pile up and eat into my storage space. Luckily, we can adjust the versioning settings to free up some room on OneDrive. For some reason, though, Microsoft has buried this option deep in the settings menu — it took me far too long to find it. So, to save the trouble, I put together this quick guide.

  1. Open Settings > OneDrive settings
  2. Go to More Settings > Return to the old Site settings page
  3. Under Site Administration, click Site libraries and lists
  4. Choose Customize "Documents"
  5. Under General Settings, click Versioning settings

After that, we can fine-tune the version limits:

  • Version time limit: Select Manual and enter a number between 30 and 36,500.
  • Version count limit: Enter a number between 100 and 50,000.
